The Government of India has awarded the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar to 32 children with exceptional abilities and outstanding accomplishments in the fields of scholastic, innovation, arts & culture, sports, social service and bravery.

President Ram Nath Kovind has approved the conferment of Jeevan Raksha Padak Series of Awards – 2020 on 40 persons. The awards include Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak to eight persons, Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak to one person and Jeevan Raksha Padak to 31 persons. One Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak award was conferred posthumously.

3. (a) Shinzo Abe
Former Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe will be honoured with the prestigious Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian award in India, for his major achievements in the field of Public Affairs.

President Ram Nath Kovind has approved the conferment of a total of 119 Padma Awards this year- 7 Padma Vibhushan, 10 Padma Bhushan, and 102 Padma Shri. The Padma Awards are the highest civilian awards of the country.

India’s permanent representative to the United Nations, TS Tirumurti announced on January 25, 2021 that India has pledged USD 150,000 this year for UN Peacebuilding fund. He further stated that as the world’s largest democracy, India is conscious of the need to prioritize the building of governance structure to strengthen democracy and the rule of law.

The United Arab Emirates cabinet has approved the setting up of an embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel. Israel also officially opened its embassy in Abu Dhabi on January 24, 2021 with the arrival of the country’s envoy there.

Nepal PM KP Sharma Oli has been expelled from the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) over his decision to dissolve the Parliament. The Prime Minister was removed from the party by a Central Committee at a meeting of the party’s splinter group held on January 24, 2021. 

9. (d) China
China became the world’s top destination for new foreign direct investment in 2020, overtaking the United States in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Though the outbreak began from China, the nation was able to quickly control coronavirus within its borders, which helped its economy rebound relatively quickly.

10. (b) Airtel
Bharti Airtel announced on January 28, 2021 that it has become the country’s first telecom operator to successfully demonstrate live fifth-generation (5G) service over a commercial network in Hyderabad city.

11. (d) India 
The 2022 Women’s Asian Cup will be hosted by India from January 20 to February 6, 2022. This was confirmed by the Asian Football Confederation. The tournament will feature 12 teams, expanded from eight in the previous edition. 

12.  (a) January 27th
The International Holocaust Remembrance Day was observed on January 27, 2021. The day is observed every year on January 27 as a memorial day for the victims of the Holocaust, the genocide of European Jews by Nazi Germany between 1941 and 1945.
